Motolumbia Prize
Dave Plogman has been riding motorcycles every year since 1985- Kawasaki, Yamaha and since 1994 BMWs. He has accumulated over 70,000 miles on four different machines. Currently he owns a 1996 BMW R1100RT motorcycle with 112k miles on the clock.
In July 2016, Dave attended the 44th annual BMW Motorcycle Owners of America’s National rally, this year held in Hamburg, NY outside of Buffalo, NY. BMWMOA holds an annual rally every summer and each year they select a different location in the USA. This year’s attendance was just over 7,100 people, most on BMW motorcycles, most riding them from points all over America. The furthest distance traveled by someone to get to this rally was over 2,700 miles. This was Dave’s 6th National rally. The 2017 BMW MOA National is being held in Salt Lake City.
Most aspects of the 3-day event involve talking about motorcycles, meeting new people and riding. There is a vintage BMW display, large vendor area, demo rides on brand new BMW bikes, seminars, tech sessions and field events. In the evening, live music, beer and food complete the day, and of course- numerous discussions about BMW motorcycles.
A popular part of big national rallies is door prizes to be given away. Prizes range from books, battery chargers and T-shirts to several multi-day motorcycle tours of exotic locations around the world. The grand prize is a brand new $18,000 BMW R1200S motorcycle.
Dave is happy to report that at this year’s rally door prize drawing, he was selected as the winner of a 10-day motorcycle mountain tour in Columbia, South America donated by Motolumbia Motorcycle Tours in Cali, Columbia. The package, valued at $3000, includes use of a Kawasaki KLR650 dual sport motorcycle, accommodations and everything else except airfare. Dave will be leaving March 3, 2017 for his once in a lifetime trip to Columbia.
