JLG AND CATERPILLAR TELEHANDLERS

JLG partnered with Brownlie Design to develop a new line of telehandler forklifts. This was a comprehensive, ground-up redesign touching on every aspect of the product. A single platform design was needed to support two different brands, with each brand including up to 15 different model variations, while also being cost-effective. Working closely with a cross-functional, multinational development team, we created a design strategy where major frame parts, the operator cab, and drive components were brand neutral, while brand colors, badging, dashboard panels, counterweights, and engine hoods were differentiated to establish strong brand identity. Once the strategy was in place, Brownlie Design moved quickly to develop the A-side surfacing that was used to define and finalize the new product forms. The resulting designs capitalized on, and pushed forward, the appearance goals for each brand while lowering manufacturing costs and incorporating technology enhancements essential for world-class telehandler designs.

RAYMOND COUNTERBALANCE REACH TRUCK

The industrial designers at Raymond Corporation and Brownlie Design collaborated on the redesign and 3D CAD documentation for Raymond’s Stand-Up Counterbalanced Forklift. The team worked together to develop a new appearance based on the Raymond product brand language. A critical step was modeling the design in PTC Creo and capturing new forms within the operator space. The result was a next-generation product with best-in-class appearance, performance, and comfort.

TOYOTA REACH TRUCK

Using brand centric styling cues, Brownlie Design and the Raymond Corporation created a new look for the Toyota reach truck. The sweeping arcs and curves are designed to maintain Toyota’s brand consistency while providing a fresh, dynamic appearance.

RAYMOND 8720 2nd LEVEL ORDER PICKER

The Raymond Corporation and Brownlie Design have been collaborating on the industrial design of Raymond’s award-winning lift products for over 35 years. For their 8720 2nd Level Order Picker, Raymond wanted to introduce a new product brand language for their order picking line of products. The 8720 would be the first in this series and its design would ultimately influence the brand identity for all other products in the line. The goal was to create an aesthetic that was aggressive and tough, yet integrated and refined. Early concepts were explored through sketches and renderings.  Once the design direction was established, Brownlie Design worked in partnership with Raymond engineering to create detailed 3D CAD models for full-scale prototype construction and subsequent production implementation.

RAYMOND iWAREHOUSE EVOLUTION

When developing the iWAREHOUSE Evolution series, the Raymond Corporation asked Brownlie Design to create a striking, leading-edge aesthetic for their intelligent forklift telematics products. These systems provide scalable forklift fleet management, improved operator efficiency, and subsequent reduction in warehouse costs. The new designs needed to be easy to read, intuitive to use, and sturdy enough to withstand long hours of use in a rugged warehouse environment. Brownlie Design developed multiple appearance concepts, addressing controls placement and display size variation. After the concepts were down selected and refined, 3D CAD models were created, and 3D prints constructed to verify the designs and allow for their testing and approval for production.

RAYMOND RIDER PALLET JACK

Brownlie Design teamed with the Raymond Corporation to create a new line of pallet trucks. For this project, we had a limited time frame to develop multiple options showcasing the look and feel of the new product. Each product in the line combines Raymond’s strong visual brand identity with an innovative use of materials. In addition, the new pallet truck would also be branded as a Toyota product. This was accomplished cost-effectively through the creative application of brand-appropriate color schemes and part-to-part contrast variations.

TOYOTA ELECTRIC COUNTERBALANCE FORKLIFTS

Brownlie Design worked with the Raymond Corporation in-house design team to develop a series of Toyota-branded counterweights for their electric counterbalance forklifts. To begin the project, Brownlie Design studied Toyota’s key design attributes, noting specific forms, brand coloration, badging, and manufacturing process concerns. In collaboration with Raymond ID and the Toyota in-house engineering group, we provided sketches and CAD mark-ups to ensure the design intent would be properly implemented. Photorealistic renderings were created to assist Toyota during the design approval process.
